NEWS: Does God Speak through Sarah Palin?

The Republican vice-presidential candidate has joined the rank of those highly controversial politicians such as George W. Bush and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who firmly believe that God speaks to them. Despite huge efforts in McCain campaign to downplay religious affiliations of Sarah Palin, news has leaked out that McCain’s running-mate has been involved with Wasilla Assembly of God, a Pentecostal church, for more than two decades. Although she officially left the Pentecostal church for the non-denominational Wasilla Bible church in 2002, she has been participating in the special events held by Assembly of God since then. While it is not yet clear whether Palin still believes in speaking in tongues and faith healing, the two most common practices among Pentecostals, some of her statements have raised serious concerns over the impact of her religious beliefs on the future U.S. government policy, if Republicans win the upcoming election. On one occasion, she asserted that the Iraq war was part of “God’s plan”. And on another occasion, she suggested that a $30 billion gas pipeline in Alaska was “God’s will”.
